In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.”
And our instinctive reaction might be: “Please, Jesus — just tell me now! Shoot me an email!”
We naturally struggle with uncertainty. We want to see the whole plan laid out — to know exactly how God intends to answer our prayers, what will happen if we take that new job, say yes to that ministry, or offer our time in a challenging way. We want assurance that our efforts in evangelizing others will eventually bear fruit — especially when their choices seem to make our lives harder.
So often, our conversations with God sound like:
“Okay, Lord, if I follow through on this, what’s going to happen?”
“Will this trial ever end?”
“Could you explain a bit more first so I can decide whether this makes sense?”
Not knowing the full picture can be unsettling. We see only a few scattered puzzle pieces, while God holds the complete image. We’re not in control — and that’s exactly where trust comes in.
What feels like God’s silence is actually a profound mercy. Imagine if He sat you down and played a video of everything He plans to do in your life — every challenge, every stretch beyond your comfort zone, every cross you’d carry. Even with glimpses of the joys, blessings, and fruits, wouldn’t your heart race with anxiety? I know mine would.
That’s why it’s a blessing that God doesn’t reveal everything at once. The Holy Spirit, Jesus tells us, will guide us “to all truth” — not instantly, but gradually and at the perfect time. He reveals exactly what we need to know, exactly when we’re ready to hear it.
Some of life’s greatest adventures come when we lean into that trust. Think of a roller coaster: the thrill comes from not knowing what’s coming next — the drops, the turns, the loops. Following Christ can be just as exhilarating! Don’t worry if you’re not a roller coaster fan — this is a safe ride. God is your seat belt, holding you close and secure in His love.
Just one safety tip: don’t try to jump off before the ride is over. Let Him carry you through to the end.
